Voice recorder to text: transcribe a recording online
Upload a recording from a voice recorder or phone, and Voisee gives you back text with punctuation. Download it as TXT or as SRT subtitles. A short thought can also be recorded right in the Voisee app and turned into text at once.
How to turn a voice recording into text
1. Take the file from your recorder or phone
A recording from your phone's built-in voice recorder or from a separate recorder works: m4a, mp3, wav and other formats, up to 500 MB and up to 3 hours.
2. Upload the file on the website or in the app
Upload the file wherever it suits you.
- On the website, in the cabinet.
- In the computer app, the Transcription section.
- In the Android app, the Transcribe a file tile on the home screen: pick the recording from your phone storage.
3. Download the text
Download the finished text, with punctuation, as TXT or as SRT subtitles. The transcript stays in the My transcripts list.
Which recordings work
mp3, wav, m4a, ogg, flac, mp4 and webm. m4a is the voice recorder format of most phones, so upload it as it is.
The file can be up to 500 MB and the recording up to 3 hours, the same on every plan. Cut a longer recording into parts and upload each one.
The Voisee app as a voice recorder with transcription
For short thoughts and notes you do not need a separate recorder: press record in the Voisee app, say it, and get text. The app is available for Android, Windows and macOS.
- On Android, the record button in the app and the Dictation tile in the quick settings panel.
- On a computer, a voice note: the Ctrl+Shift+A hotkey starts recording, and Esc cancels it.
- The recording goes to the server in full once you stop it. On Android, without a connection it waits and is sent later.
For a long lecture or meeting, record it with your phone's built-in voice recorder instead, then upload the file.
How notes are laid out with templates is on the Voice notes page. The computer and Android apps are on the download page.
Lectures and conversations
A recording of a lecture, interview or conversation is transcribed in full if it is no longer than 3 hours. SRT subtitles keep the timecodes, so it is easy to find the right spot in the recording.
If several people spoke, tick Split by speaker: the lines are split by speaker. It works for any language and on any plan.
What a conversation split by speaker looks like is on the Meeting transcription page.
Languages
Russian speech is recognised in the fast mode. For English and other languages there is a multilingual mode: it is slower, a minute of recording takes 2.5 to 3.5 seconds. You can pick the language yourself or leave Auto.
What you get
Text with punctuation. On the website and in the apps you can download it as TXT or as SRT subtitles.
In the computer app you can also save it as MD or to a note.
The My transcripts list is shared by the cabinet, the computer and Android. Transcripts are kept for 7 days.
How much is free
The Free plan gives you 60 min a week, no card needed.
